What Makes a Good Life for Young Parents?

As a part of our engagement, we heard from 15 young people under the age of 18 who were themselves parents.

This summary report presents the key themes we heard from these young parents.

  1. We need to feel supported and valued to be good parents
  2. Education will secure our future and our children’s future
  3. We need to be financially secure and have our basic needs met
  4. We love our children and we want the best for them

We hope this document will inform policy and practice development for services to support young parents. This is the first of a series of summary reports from February 2019’s What Makes a Good Life? report. The next will be a summary of what we heard from Pacific children and young people.
